I live and work in West Linn, Oregon. I love my profession. I’m truly honored to research interesting subjects, interview fascinating people and earn a living through writing. I’m the author of the The Internet of Things (MIT Press, 2021), Virtual Reality (MIT Press 2019) and the AARP Crash Course in Finding the Work You Love: The Essential Guide to Reinventing Your Life (Sterling, 2008).
I’m a regular contributor to Communications of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), Channel Pro, CMO by Adobe, Dark Reading, Engineering Inc. and many other business and technology publications.
Over the years, I’ve written articles for AARP, the magazine, American Way, Delta Sky, Discover,
Entrepreneur, Hemispheres, Industry Week, Home, Los Angeles, MSNBC/MSN Online, PM Network (The Project Management Institute), Southwest Spirit, Westways, Wired, Wired UK
and The Writer.
I also handle corporate assignments—including brochures, white papers, e-books, ghostwritten
executive blogs, web content and annual reports. I’ve produced content for Adobe, Charles Schwab & Co., Cisco Systems, Dell Computer, Honda, IBM, Intel, PwC, Microsoft, Oracle,
NASDAQ, Palo Alto Networks, Rackspace, Siemens, Unisys, Veritas and many others. I’ve appeared on several radio and television programs. And I’ve received numerous writing awards. These include a Maggie in 1997 for best article in a trade magazine, and ASBPE as well as Marcom platinum and gold awards.
I am a past president of the American Society of Journalists and Authors. I’ve served as a guest
lecturer at the University of Wisconsin, Madison Writer’s Program, and a past instructor for the Writer’s Program at UCLA Extension.
